Final Reflective Letter
There are so many new and interesting ideas that I have learned this semester from this class. I hope that as my college experience keeps going I have more classes that I leave feeling like I have learned as much as I feel I have learned from this course. I’ve never been the best in english and when I signed up for this class I thought that it would be all about spelling grammer and things like that.
I’m not going to lie when I frist got the email with the course sylabus on it I freaked out. I really didn’t think it would be possible to read all seven books in one semester and still have time to have a life. The way the books were broken up into sections made it really easy to read all of the books in the time given. Most of these books I had never heard of and didn’t really know how interesting they would be, but after reading them I really liked them and will try to read Middle Sex over the summer.
When I started this class I really didn’t know what the hero journey really was. I had always thought of a hero as someone like super man. I never really thought that just an ordinary person could be classified as a hero. I really didn’t think that all of the journeys I have been on could be classified as a hero journey to someone else.
The first time in class when the word archetype was mentioned I really didn’t know the full meaning of it. I was thinking of the greek gods, which was WAY off! After studying the archetypes and learning that there are so many different archetypes. I really have see the full meaning of the word. I also understand that one person isn’t just one archetype. Each person goes throught many different archetypes, even in a single day.
During the first class when we were informed that we would have to create blog pages, I was really concerned. I’m not the most technological person and I have a hard time learning face book. Then once I got my page up and running I found that it was really easy. I really like that we can view all of our classmates work and leave them comments. I think that really helps boost our confidence in our own work. The only complaint I have about the blogs is that we really should have had a day in class to show each persons blog and match the blog with the writer sooner than we did.
This class has been a wonderful journey, I know that all of the information I learned in this class I will take with me, and try to use as much of it as I can in my future classroom. I really liked the teaching strategies that were used, the classes were interesting and easy to pay attention to. I also feel that you made material easy to understand, and made it meaningful to our lives, which helped us remember the information.
