Hillbilly Deluxe

Posted by iupchc21 on April 7, 2008

Well, up in the backwoods, down in the holler,
Ol’ boys feelin’ like a dog on a collar.
Keepin’ that chain pulled tight.
Waitin’ on saturday night.
Put on the smell good, put on Skynyrd,
Head into town like a NASCAR winner.
Cruisin’ back and forth to the Tasty Freeze.
Everywhere you look all you see is,

Hillbilly deluxe, slick pick up trucks.
Big timin’ in a small town.
Stirrin’ it up right about sundown.
Black denim and chrome to the bone,
With a little home-grown.
A country girl cuddled up, hillbilly deluxe.

Couple kids, sweet things, drivin’ a fast bash.
Shoot ‘em a coons’ smile.
Hopin’ that they smile back, “Hey, baby, what’s your name?”
Burn a little rubber when the red lights change.
Here come the blue light, here come the bonnie.
Hot on the bill y’all, let’s move the party.
Gotta go, but that’s alright.
Do it all again next Friday night.

Hillbilly deluxe, slick pick-’em-up trucks.
Big timin’ in a small town.
Stirrin’ it up right about sundown.
Black denim and chrome to the bone,
With a little home-grown.
A country girl cuddled up, hillbilly deluxe.

–Instrumental break.–

Hillbilly deluxe, slick pick-’em-up trucks.
Big timin’ in a small town.
Stirrin’ it up right about sundown.
Black denim and chrome to the bone,
With a little home-grown.
A country girl cuddled up, hillbilly deluxe.

Hillbilly deluxe.
Hillbilly deluxe.
Hillbilly deluxe.

Where Corn Don’t Grow

Posted by iupchc21 on April 2, 2008

As we sat on the front porch
Of that old grey house where I was born and raised
Starin’ at the dusty fields
Where my daddy worked hard every day
I think it kinda hurt him when I said Daddy
There’s a lot that I don’t know
But don’t you ever dream about a life
Where corn don’t grow

He just sat there silent
Staring at his favorite coffee cup
I saw a storm of mixed emotion in his eyes
When he looked up
He said Son I know at your age
Seems like this ol’ world is turning slow
And you think you’ll find the answer to it all
Where corn don’t grow

Hard times are real
There’s dusty fields
No matter where you go
You may change your mind
‘Cause the weeds are high
Where corn don’t grow

I remember feeling guilty
When Daddy turned and walked back in the house
I was only seventeen back then
But I thought that I knew more than I know now
I can’t say he didn’t warn me
This city life’s a hard row to hoe
Ain’t it funny how a dream can turn around
Where corn don’t grow

Hard times are real
There’s dusty fields
No matter where you go
And you may change your mind
‘Cause the weeds are high
Where corn don’t grow

You may change your mind
Oh the weeds are high
Where corn don’t grow

She Couldn’t Change Me

Posted by iupchc21 on March 31, 2008

Sometime I think what turned her on
Was my old broke down boots
She wanted her a real cowboy
It was a phase she was goin’ through

But not one week after she moved in
I caught her paintin’ the bedroom blue
She brought home a bottle of pink Chablis
And poured out my best brew

I was sittin’ on the porch in my overalls
While she packed her things to leave
She changed her mind when she couldn’t change me

She changed direction headed out west
Changed her tune to some hip-hop mess
Her dark brown hair went blonde
And her pretty blue eyes went green
She changed everything when she couldn’t change me

She was sittin’ beside the ocean
Looking out at the waves
Watching how they keep on rollin’
But always seem the same

She called and said she’d been thinkin’ about
All those quiet country nights
And whatever she thought was so wrong with me
Suddenly seemed all right

I was sittin’ on the porch in my overalls
When her truck pulled into view
She said I changed my mind when I couldn’t change you

She changed direction headed back home
She changed her tune it’s all Haggard and Jones
She had her dark brown hair pulled back
And blue eyes like you’ve never seen
She changed her mind when she couldn’t change me

She said I guess when you love someone you just gotta let it be
Yeah, she changed her mind when she couldn’t change me

Heaven Help My Heart

Posted by iupchc21 on March 26, 2008

Two smilin’ faces, that’s how it used to be
What once was forever is now a faded memory
The perfect illusion
For awhile I guess it was
Without explanation
The bloom fell off the rose

Heaven help my heart
‘Cause it’s a lot like me
I’m wonderin’ when this all will end
And I’ll find the love I need
I know it’s out there somewhere
Somehow I still believe
I’m asking please
Heaven help my heart

This world can get crazy
These are troubled times
I’d walk through the fire
If love is what I’d find
It’s out of my hands now
So I put my faith in you
And I say a little prayer
And hope that it comes true

Heaven help my heart
‘Cause it’s a lot like me
I’m wonderin’ when this all will end
And I’ll find the love I need
I know it’s out there somewhere
Somehow I still believe
I’m asking please
Heaven help my heart

Ten Thousand Angels

Posted by iupchc21 on March 24, 2008

Ten Thousand Angels
(Steven Dale Jones/Billy Henderson)

Speakin’ of the devil
Look who just walked in
He knows just where to find me
Here we go again
I can tell he’s gonna ask me to dance
But that’s not as far as he wants to go
I need ten thousand angels
To help me tell him “No.”

Lead me not into temptation
Heaven help me to be strong
I can fight all that I’m feeling
But I can’t do it alone
Help me break this spell that I’m under
Guide my feet and hold me tight
I need ten thousand angels
Watching over me tonight

It’s time to face my weakness
Look him in the eye
Lord knows it won’t be easy
But I’ve just gotta try
I can’t let myself get lost in his arms
That’s how I got my heart broke before
I need ten thousand angels
To walk me out the door

Lead me not into temptation
Heaven help me to be strong
I can fight all that I’m feeling
But I can’t do it alone
Help me break this spell that I’m under
Guide my feet and hold me tight
I need ten thousand angels
Watching over me tonight

I need ten thousand angels
Watching over me tonight

Ten thousand angels
Watching over me tonight
Ten thousand angels
Watching over me tonight
Watching over me tonight

My Give a Damn’s Busted

Posted by iupchc21 on March 19, 2008

Well you filled up my head

With so many lies

Twisted my heart

‘till something snapped inside

I’d like to give it one more try

But my give a damn’s busted

You can crawl back home

Say you were wrong

Stand out in the yard

And cry all night long

Go ahead and water the lawn

My give a damn’s busted

(Chorus)

I really wanna care

I wanna feel somethin’

Let me dig a little deeper

No, sorry nothing

You can say you’ve got issues

You can say you’re a victum

It’s all you parents fault, I mean

After all, you didn’t pick ‘em

Maybe somebody else has got time

To listen

My give a damn’s busted

Well you’re therapist says

It was all a mistake

A product of the Prozac

And your codependent ways

So, who’s you enabler these

Days

My give a damn’s busted

(Chorus)

I really wanna care

I wanna feel something

Let me dig a little deeper

No, still nothing

It’s a desperate situation

No tellin’ what you’ll do

If I don’t forvie you

You say your life is through

C’mon, give me something I can

Use

My give a damn’s busted

Well…

(Chorus)

I really wanna care

I wanna feel something

Let me dig a little deeper

No, man… sorry

Junt nothing……. No

You’ve really done it this time… ha

Ha

My give a damn’s busted
